Productive Magazine #3 in 4 days! August 4th.

Friday, July 31st, 2009

So far so good, we’re finishing up the Productive Magazine Issue #3 and it is going to be a great one.

For this issue I’ve been interviewing Michael Bungay-Stanier (@boxofcrayons), native Australian who lives in Canada and has been awarded there “coach of the year 2006″ and by David Allen is considered one of the best thinkers on productivity. Among the GTD crowd he’s very well known for the “creative questioning” podcast with David Allen.

Here’s the early scoop of the cover design for the issue #3:

Some excerpts from the interview:

You know how there’s some work you do that’s meaningful and important and makes a difference? And then there’s the rest of the stuff you do and that somehow fills up your days? Great Work is the first type. And I want you to do more of that.

Think of your goal not as saying No – but as “saying Yes more slowly.” Part of what trips us up is how our default is set to saying Yes and saying Yes quickly. If you can just slow things down a little - and the best way to do this is to get curious and ask questions about what’s being asked of you - then you’ll end up not committing yourself to so much.

I truly believe that you can’t do Great Work by yourself. If you’re smart, you build up a team - people who can provide technical, intellectual and emotional support.

Metrics are tricky - they can turn into an end in themselves, rather than a means to an end. At least, that’s the excuse I make for me not measuring very much.

Tuesday, August 4th, Productive Magazine is strikes back again!

Launch of our sister site - Productive! Show - ProductiveShow.com

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Our “Productive!” family keeps on growing. As we’re preparing the launch of the all-new issue of the Productive Magazine (I’ll announce the launch date this week!) I decided to compile my series of “2-minute productivity” shows into a separate blog called “Productive Show”.

My goal is to publish a new 2-minute video about productivity every week. At this moment I just put all the archive videos I had on the topic and we’ll go from there.

We’ll see how it goes, but I’ll definitely give it a try. In the meantime I encourage you to check out our sister-site and let me know how you like the 2-minute videos with some really cool Productivity Tips and Tricks.

How to manage flood of email messages? How to quickly read magazines? How to process inbox? It’s all in there, have a look and let me know in the comments:

4000+ downloads in the first 24 hours - issue #2 hits it!

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

It’s been crazy 24 hours for the Productive Magazine! Just in the first 24 hours more than 4,000 people have downloaded our magazine and the response has been great so far, looking forward to more blog posts and tweets. Hope you can help us spread the word even more!

When I launched #2 of the magazine, I thought it’d be cool to beat the issue #1 2x times and reach a total of 60K downloads… and although we’re still far from the goal, we’ve beaten the first 24 hours of the first issue 4 times, as the first issue was downloaded “only” 1K times during its first launch day

Please help us spread the word to achieve our goal of 60K downloads! Thanks!

And if you didn’t get your copy of the magazine, download it now it’s only 2.5 MB and it’s free!

Here are the handful of blogs that helped so far:

I invite you to follow me on twitter, blog and tweet about the magazine and help us spread the word! After all we’re doing the magazine for your, for free and we’re hoping you’ll find it useful. Thanks!

Spring cleaning at the Productive Magazine

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

I came back from the GTD Summit in San Francisco and the Productive Magazine #2 is not ready yet due to some technical problems we’ve been experiencing… and I’m really sorry for that.

As I hate being late or overdue with things and we’re long overdue with #2, I decided to do some cleaning and design the Productive Magazine Editorial Processes over again and make sure we can deliver each issue of the magazine on a regular basis.

Shorter but regular (monthly as the ultimate goal)

I’ve heard voices over at the Summit that they’d rather read a shorter magazine but on a regular basis than a longer one every few months. I definitely share this opinion and let me tell you, I think we’ll be on the right track with PM #3. The next issue will be due sometime in May and hopefully #4 and next ones will be as regular as ever and issued every month.

Productive Magazine Team is growing!

One the side note - our Productive Magazine Team is growing - apart from Me and my assistant Delfina, Lori Anderson and Dustin Wax (of Lifehack.org fame) have volunteered to participate and let me prepare each issue for you. If you also would like to volunteer and help me out, make sure to contact me.

How did I design the processes for the Productive Magazine #3 and beyond?

While I can’t reveal all the details yet (I’ll have to test them and really see what works and what doesn’t) I’ll be happy to let you know in the future posts about the process, for now just have a look at the Mind Map I did in the Freemind app on my Mac:

Please let me know in the comments, what you liked, didn’t like and would love to see in the future issues of the Productive Magazine and which format would be the best for you?

P.S. The issue #2 is almost finished and should be out any day now. Again, sorry for the delay!
